For centuries now, women have ignored their fitness, more so in our country. Although young women are a lot more health-conscious today, there are still some who ignore their health and fitness. They spend their energy in caregiving and fulfilling other roles expected traditionally of them. Being fit does not only mean trying to achieve a size zero body but to reach a level of optimum health that will allow you to function to the best of your abilities.

Obesity is a leading factor for too many lifestyle diseases like cardiovascular disorders, hypertension, breast cancer, arthritis, diabetes, hormonal imbalance and infertility. Our changing lifestyles and obesity are also factors of our increasing stress levels. High-stress levels bring with it a lot more severe health issues like depression, anxiety etc. The ill effects of obesity are no secret hence it is imperative to take stalk and make a change to incorporate some physical activity in our daily regimes.

Maintaining a regular fitness routine can help fight obesity and can prevent many illnesses.Regular physical activity should include a combination of resistance and cardio exercise so as to reap the highest benefits. One can also pursue a hobby or a sport such as swimming, walking, gym, yoga. Salsa and Zumba are two trendy workouts across the globe. Women who exercise regularly do not suffer from PMS.

Exercise is important because it:

  1. strengthens the heart.
  2. increases stamina
  3. helps combat stress levels and the overall mental health.
  4. helps increase and maintain bone density, thus helps in preventing osteoporosis and improves balance and coordination.
  5. Aerobic exercises make respiratory muscles stronger and give you higher energy levels.
  6. Studies have shown a link between physical activity and release of the hormone endorphins also called the happy hormone. Thus, maintaining a regular schedule reduces the stress level to a great extent.

Although fitness is important for all women irrespective of their occupation, it has also been found that by maintaining a fitness program women in decision-making positions find it easier to perform their jobs.

Staying physically fit impacts the overall health, its benefits include more than just looking slim.

In addition to these physical activities maintaining a proper diet is also highly important. It is even found out that on an average the level of nutrition in women is comparatively less than in men.

 

Our diet should:

  1. be balanced and supply the nutrition and essential vitamins.
  2. not include junk food that has extra sugar and calories which cause obesity.
  3. have at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily, many of bodies functions depend on being adequately hydrated.
  4. have high-fiber, it is recommended that we eat around 30 grams of fibre each day.
  5. include Green Tea, it is a rich source of antioxidants.
